yet china has 10x less billionaires per capita than the US. china is also not known for putting billionaires in the spotlight or letting them dictate policy. also: in the context of how china developed through the 20th century until today it´s more than impressive how china advanced the material conditions of regular workers. i am not denying that exploitation of labour happens to an extend, but it is neither encouraged nor as rampant as in western countries. china claims to be socialist “with chinese character” but they are capitalist after all, this includes all the failings of the system. but with extra guardrails.

i agree in that regard, nordstream was really bugging america and they could foresee this happening if germany and russia ever cut their business relations.

but in context to the “china is winning” meme it’s funny to observe how america constantly shoots itself in the foot for fringe ideological reasons despite the fact everyone and their grandma could foresee the consequences

i’m all for linux phones, android becomes locked down by google, iOS is proprietary and dumbphones seem like an unnecessary burden if you wanna participate in society.

But i oppose the inclusion of any state in FOSS development. The EU is constantly pushing for chat control, Germany uses Palantir and ACTA was a thing. The EU could flip in the next election cycle and make backdoors mandatory or cut funding and cause the collapse of active development which relies on EU funding if their demands are not met.

But i’m no developer, i’m just an active user so i can’t have an informed opinion on that.

What i do: oomscroll Lemmy, take smoke breaks, do “the little stuff” like organizing documents after your lazy coworkers, take a walk, read books and hop on codeacademy. Still - this freedom gets stale quickly because the most stressful part becomes pretending to look busy

china doesn’t have centralized power, china is democratic on a grassroots level, china doesn’t screw it’s workers for max profit.

i fail to understand this label, as china is not following the core tenets of fascism

libs can’t comprehend a democratic system within a single pluralistic party.

I am no expert and can only tell from my own experience: i recently installed CachyOS with KDE, it is an Arch based distro, despite that I, a fresh linux user, think it is really accessible and it worked out of the box. Gaming is not really an issue for me, if issues arise i just check ProtonDB, but that´s really rare thanks to Lutris being pre-installed. You also benefit from the Arch Wiki which, in my opinion, has a REALLY good documentation of any question or issue you encounter with that operating system.

You have to get comfortable with the terminal though, but i think that applies to any linux distro (my only other distro experience is Mint 10 yrs ago)

If anyone utters this argument i´ll hit them with “okay give me your phone and let me look through your browser history, pictures and messages.”

ATP i feel like Amazon became a Marketplace for smaller online Shops, if i find something on Amazon i usually check if i can get it either from the Source, on a detour on my weekly shopping trip or from the seller´s website just to cut out the most middlemen.
