How would you feel about a potential future government banning anything about trans/gay people because it (according to them) has proven harm against children? Its not really that much of a hypothetical either as numerous states in the USA are heading down that route.

You don’t really want to be running them on a laptop. You either need a big dedicate graphics card (with 16 GB of RAM preferably) or a unified RAM/VRAM machine like a mac mini or a strix halo.

You cant just “fund a startup trying to make ram”. Chip fabrication is probably the most difficult and capital intensive production process there is. What manufacturing more ram looks like is investing tens of billions of real money (not the you give us stock we let you use our GPU deals the AI companies have been doing) and then waiting 5-10 years before the fab you funded starts to make chips, and hope prices are still high by then.

That’s why the existing manufactures are slow to scale up, they arent sure that the current spike in demand will still be there by the time their scaling up increases production.

FWIW on piefed (a re-implementation of Lemmy essentially, I’m posting from it here) you can do instance level blocks that prevent you from seeing any posts from users on the blocked instances, which might be more useful to you. I have .ml blocked myself, and can report significant tankie spam reduction.

It is useful for programming, I know a lot of people here don’t want to hear that, but denying it now is being willfully ignorant. No it isn’t good enough that you can tell it “just go do the thing” and then accept what it gives you without checking it, but using it as a tool as a professional can very much improve your work and how quickly you do things.

For me recently I used it to unpick a nasty race condition that was occasionally causing a program I was working on to lock up and couldn’t figure out why. It took some back and forth with it but it did help me figure it out when before I had been stumped.

Fediverse is not private in any sense. Anything you post (or up/downvote) is blasted out to every federated instance and only gets deleted if that instance respects the delete command, which you cant rely on.

So calling someone disagreeable a dick, or a bellend, or a prick, or a tosser, or a knobhead, or a wanker, is fine. But calling them a cunt is beyond the pale?
