Yeah the remote desktop stuff isn’t quite there yet eh? And I was wondering how they were going to replace X over ssh as well.

Those are all perfectly valid reasons.
Sometimes I feel the Linux community is too eager to jump on the latest shiny new thing, even when it’s not finished or lacking important features, or has bugs.

18·10 days agoBro you can just install Postmarket OS or Mobian on the thing. Even put plasma mobile. Maybe have a USB-C display connected? I don’t know if that would work.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If dark matter doesn't emit, absorb, or reflect light, what happens when light hits it?
5·11 days agoI think what they mean is that “dark matter” is just a name that scientists gave to a phenomenon they have yet to understand. It’s a variable in a math problem that represents something that’s there, that influences the whole system, but we don’t quite yet know what it is.
If my memory is correct, one of these problems is the mass of the universe. It doesn’t quite all add up. So they made up this dark matter to explain it. It’s the missing matter that we can’t quite observe but makes it all make sense.

106·13 days agoIf the price for their device isn’t too high, I might actually finally own a VR headset.
There’s no way I’d ever buy something from Meta. All the other devices are way too expensive and compliated to set up. This new Valve Frame is going to be perfect.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What types of cleaning products do you *really* need to clean the bathroom?
31·15 days agoA mix of water and vinegar in a spray bottle is best. Maybe toilet bown cleaner for the toilet bowl and maybe some CLR occasionally to remove mineral buildup in the shower or bath.

Linux@lemmy.world•Distro Recommendation Discussion (Not a 'What Distro Should I Use?' Post)English
2·18 days agoThere’s nothing wrong with charging money for a set of configurations. They’re just saving you the time to set it up yourself. They’re charging you for the time they put in to put it together.
Nothing’s stopping you from getting the free version and doing the configuration yourself.

Linux@lemmy.world•Does Terminal use actually make sense in the real world?English
3·21 days agoI have yet to find a gui that allows me to do the equivalent of running a find command with a regex to find specific files and run a set command to search and replace a string in one go.
Yeah I’ve had problems as well. In Kubuntu 24.04, Mozc is installed as the default keyboard layout manager even if there’s one that’s already integrated in KDE. I’m learning Japanese and I had so much trouble getting a Japanese input method setup because I was trying to use KDE’s system when I needed to use Mozc. It’s really confusing.
