  • We did have “study hall periods”, but you weren’t allowed to disappear and do what ever. You had to sign up for them, and if you never showed up they forced you take a normal class. (And it was a few times a week, not every day).

You could pretty much either stay in the classroom or go to the library. And the library kicked groups out if they weren’t really doing anything beside being noisy. They didn’t really care before/after school hours so much.

Some of the schools had a courtyard, but they didn’t really let us use it freely.

My school spent a lot money (grant, I think) to build a nice lounge area and then didn’t let students use it because they were afraid the soft cushions we’re going to get wrecked.

The cafeteria and library were pretty much the main “hang out” spots before/after school. We only had 5 minutes between classes, so it was always a mess of students rushing across the building.

  • In Need for Speed, how many other cars did you hit or do you play with traffic off? In a video game there are no consequences, so you end up hitting dozens and can keep going as you learn the game. In real life, you hit one car and someone is either dead, wishes they were, or incredibly lucky.

How about hitting the trees, the road barriers, going through grass? All that stuff costs the community money to fix.

Let’s say you’re the best (or luckiest) player in the world and never hit anything, how much did your little cousin hit when you first gave up the controller?

Street racing is a crime because its dangerous to other people. You are intentionally putting other people’s life at risk for your own personal entertainment.

  • It’s big reminder of the dark times we live in. We’ve become insensitive to the school shootings, they have been weighing less and less on “societies collective mind” since Sandy Hook. They’re covered for a day, and vanish from the mind.

This time it was a person most of us knew of and have formed an opinion about. Weather you liked him or not, there is an emotional connection there.

The stark difference in how people are reacting is chilling. Honestly, its difficult to accept a group cheering on his death to an extreme degree. Making a meme is whatever, but the videos and comments are filled such hate that it is unsettling to witness.

At the end of the day, he was a dude exercising his free speech. His words may be misguided, but he had his opinions and was willing to debate them with people.
