None of that is news to anyone paying attention. Obviously Republicans are terrible but if you’re going to hold Democrats up as our saviors then they need to actually save the day once in a while.

Republicans have faced the same exact power imbalance you described many times over the years and yet they have no trouble getting their legislative agenda passed. Why is that? Answer that question honestly and you’ll know exactly why people blame Democrats for shit Republicans do.

I know what you’re saying, but what you’re waiting for as a sign is logically impossible within the constraints you’ve defined. If no one votes for 3rd parties because they aren’t popular enough then they will always be too unpopular to vote for.

I don’t think that’s true. If Talarico makes the case that Paxton and Trump are the kind of people Jesus would have whipped out of the temple, which is a pretty succinct summary of his whole campaign imo, then there are definitely people in Texas who would care about that. That simple fact is the entire reason Paxton has categorically refused a debate thus far. It’s also the reason Talarico’s interview with Kimmel aired on YouTube instead of NBC (or whatever dumb network Kimmel’s show is on).

I don’t think it matters if it’s safe in the short term to walk around with stickers like that. It’s important though, even if safety is your primary goal.

Nazi ideology is unpopular. It thrives only by making those opposed to it think and act as if it is widely accepted. If perceived acceptance allows Nazis to gain more power then you will be vastly more unsafe than you are now.

Therefore, if safety is your primary goal then stopping Nazis is one of the most important things you can work towards. It is more important for others to see your resistance than it is to be safe in the short term.

Sure, the government could do all sorts of things to ensure bailouts are effectively applied, including giving them directly to the people who need them. They don’t do that because helping the people isn’t the goal. They just say that’s the goal as a marketing ploy.

Bailouts go to huge corporations because that’s who the government cares about. Stopping rich dudes from keeping as much of our money as possible is diametrically opposed to our nation’s fundamental economic and political philosophy. Of course they don’t make a serious effort to keep it from happening.

Yes, plans that don’t work out can retroactively be called the wrong decision because they failed. Of fucking course they can. The alternative is attempting the same thing over and over but expecting a different result, which is a popular description of insanity. You’re ridiculing the fundamental process of learning and growth and seeming proud of it because you think its helping you win an argument. That might honestly be the dumbest thing I’ve seen someone do.

I agree with most of what you said. However, I find it odd that you called it “one of the most important cases in American history” but also seem to be defending their decision to treat it much like any other case.

Trump is the best example there is that norms and precedent don’t mean much. He loves using the system against his opponents and Smith didn’t fight back against that at all. Again, he should have expected Trump’s deny and delay tactics and took some action.

Fighting an opponent who uses the rules against you requires being creative with the rules. Instead of the bold action we needed we got timid deference to procedure. If Biden and Garland were the hold up then stand in front of the media and say that directly to the world. Force them to either get off their ass or fire you. Anything less is equivalent to letting Trump run out the clock, which is exactly what happened.

He’s proving right now that he knows how to do this, which is why it’s so frustrating that he didn’t do it when it might have mattered.
