  • Lower your standards. Half-ass fold things. Don’t use hangers. I drape over the drying rack and have gotten pretty adept at a quick lift and couple of shitty folds into a stack. Another tip is to have clothing that don’t care about wrinkles (synthetics, sports clothing). Then you can just throw them into a drawer. I have pretty homogeneous clothing (all the same featureless t-shirt in black, white, grey, same underwear, etc). This helps with the organizing on to the drying rack. I know exactly how many of each goes where and it is trivial to color coordinate so the half ass folding naturally collates the stacks.

I wait to do laundry every couple of weeks. It all fits in one load most of the time (bought largest high efficiency machine, 12kg capacity). Some clothing gets more than one use before washing, and it entirely depends on how active I am in that clothing.

All of this helps me personally mitigate my extreme disdain at the task. Oh, and getting absolutely stoned out of my mind. Put on some tunes, it ain’t so bad either the draping (largest things first), or the shitty folding.

Then there’s also the hubris that rich fucks read every cautionary tale with. “Surely the powerful technology and the power it will give me wont corrupt me, I’ve read the cautionary tales about how power corrupts so I’ll know what to do to avoid that! Also I’m built different.”

I think this is assuming way too much intelligence, self-awareness, and introspection for said rich fucks. Sadly, wealth is not an indicator of any of those things.

  • pro-tip, make friends that are okay with you not masking. You’re filled with anxiety about their feelings on the matter. You’re a good person, but you’re not doing yourself or them any favors. Just be honest with yourself and with others. Life goes much easier if you turn down the masking and let that act as your social filter, naturally.

Next time they ask, be honest and set some boundaries. “I don’t really feel like it because every time we hang out, I have to pretend to be someone I am not and this sucks for my mental health. I feel guilty ghosting you when you ask. I don’t want to be an asshole, but I would appreciate if you would respect my wishes and wait for my reach out.” This gives you an out if you change your mind later. This acquaintance might not really know you well enough to infer your intent from your behavior. They may even be concerned for your well being given you mention depression. This blast of honesty should either let you drop the masking and gain a new friend, or deter further contact.

That’s a pure mastercrafted, genuine, bonafide Strawman.

We aren’t talking about money here. Or anything of real value. We’re talking about interacting with randos on the internet. It’s fun. It’s interesting. It is completely superfluous and not necessary. Fedihosting Stichting could decide they don’t wanna bother with this any more, and a large chunk of the fediverse goes poof. There is no permanence on the internet. Even the archives are spotty. I’ve cycled through so many aggregators, forums, IRC channels, XMPP whatever from the early internets to now. It all turns to mulch eventually. Meta will ditch facebook once enough of the olds die off. Reddit will be another Digg someday. So, getting a ban and getting butthurt over it is simply not worth the energy. I’ve given my share of fucks and none of it mattered. This too doesn’t matter.
