I had a model I can’t remember which was an emergency replacement from my OnePlus 3T years ago, then two G Powers of… Some years, then my Pixel 5a and then 8, and now a Razr 2024.

I mean, you’re getting a lot of downvotes, but I’ve gone Motorola -> Motorola -> Motorola -> Pixel -> Pixel -> Motorola.

Both my Pixels died in less than a year. Each had battery life which, while it did improve over a few weeks as Pixel’s optimization stuff took hold, never reached an entire day. Both were unacceptably fragile. Both failed randomly, just out of warranty.

And the Motorola I’m using now has none of those problems, was cheaper, is faster, has a better battery, has a better screen, and in some ways is more customizable (fuck that unmovable search bar).

Like, really. Motorola is a sleeper brand. Not perfect, but damn good.

That’s not how corporates think though. The ONLY thing that matters to them is number go up next month. Surprising customers with new fees for things they rely on is an easy way to do that. Guaranteed they’ll try it.

If you struggle with pronouns, apologize casually when the pronouns come up.

As a fellow old, the kids don’t seem to necessarily get it that my brain is wired pretty hard not to change pronouns, but they do seem to appreciate the effort and the discussion that it’s a challenge rather than just fucking it up with no explanation.

Otherwise, be mindful that they take a lot of shit for parts of themselves that are background attributes for the rest of us. They can get pretty tired of it. A friendly person who regards them as just people may be the best thing they can get from anyone.

The way you behave in public is visible by the public, kids. No matter how you feel about it. If you don’t want it read, don’t post it.

In this order:

1. Tell other adults you trust about the situation. Your wife. Her parents if possible. More than one other person.

2. Explain to her in very clear terms that you can’t have that kind of relationship. It’s not about what anybody feels, it’s about what is possible.

3. At the FIRST sign of any type of revenge seeking behavior, that’s when you consider the authorities and rely on backup from the adults you spoke to.

She very well might listen to you, process the rejection for what it is, and move on. Or she might flip out and cause you a mess. If she handles it well, she’s learned something and you’ve treated a growing human with respect. If she doesn’t, your ass is covered.
