The hardware for those mods costs as much, if not more, than the entire controller from Nintendo.
2.4 GHz is complete overkill for old games that used to poll the controller 60 times a second anyway. On top of that, it always requires an adapter, which can be inconvenient on the go. Even if they built it in on the Switch, I don’t care, I mostly use the retro controllers on the Steam Deck.
Those controllers have been improved upon, true, but they are what those old games were designed for. The N64 controller especially is annoying to replicate with modern controllers.
Console exclusives are bad, but consoles in themselves are a useful part of the industry. They provide a hassle-free experience for players, and a stable target for game developers. They’ve used their position to be parasites, that’s true, but they don’t have to be to survive.
Good idea, but it’s too little too late. The problem isn’t just births, young people are also leaving Japan in droves.
