7·6 hours agoThe lights are barely kept on for our Lemmy instance, I don’t expect a Stoat server anytime soon…

535·7 hours agoI’d recommend Stoat because they won’t rape you for all the personal data they can.
I’m familiar with Bombay energy, sharing my house with one.

When the pastry chef empties his bag onto the cake, it is called “icing”, but when I empty my bag onto the cake it is called “a violation of Twitch TOS”.
QUITE CURIOUS…

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why have Christian crosses become a fashion statement?English
5·6 days agoI’d argue it’s been a statement for decades, and that many (most?) Christians don’t understand the iconography behind the cross.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which are some low effort habits or hobbies that have had a positive impact on your life?English
31·6 days agoHobbies I’m not sure, none of mine seem low effort.
Habits, just off the top of my head:
- Going to bed early
- No alcohol
- A good weekday stretching routine
- Not making social plans on Sundays (assuming a Mon-Fri work week)
- “No screens” rule in the bedroom

Technology@lemmy.world•Retailers are pulling back from self-checkout after years of theft, errors, and questionable time savingsEnglish
21·8 days agoI suppose that’s a solution, but you’re also doubling your responsibilities, and the price of the groceries still stays too damn high.

Technology@lemmy.world•Retailers are pulling back from self-checkout after years of theft, errors, and questionable time savingsEnglish
02·8 days agoMy only complaint were the ones I experienced in Japanese konbini, which has you scan your purchases, but you had to wait until after payment to bag them. Once this really patient, wonderful local couple showed me what I was doing wrong, it was okay. But still an unfortunate hiccup in their process.

Technology@lemmy.world•Retailers are pulling back from self-checkout after years of theft, errors, and questionable time savingsEnglish
8·8 days agoThat’s sometimes part of the awkwardness. My additional gripes are completely pedantic, but hear me out:
None of the grocery chains in my area offer bagging services, so I have to wait for the attendant to scan my items, bag them myself, and then shuffle back to the register to pay. None of this is a problem, except that the human attendant rarely ever scans the items in the order that makes sense to bag them. So there’s the weird dance of waiting, pushing items aside, etc.
If I’m doing self-check, I can scan and bag using my own patented autistic process ™ that is quick, makes sense, and doesn’t crush things, and I can do it in one shot.
