First of all the voters are responsible. They are easily manipulated so the parties, the elite, the media and others are responsible, too. But we have to stop using democracy if the voters are so unreliable that they don’t count.

We’re not blaming the country’s entire decline on Trump, just the recent acceleration of the decline. A country can’t be brought as low as this in less than a decade unless it was already pretty low to begin with, but when a new factor causes an existing problem to accelerate, then that variable can certainly be blamed for the acceleration, along with the other variables that also play into the problem as a whole.
Trump is to blame for our country’s decline, and so are republicans as a whole, and so are billionaires, and so are a bunch of other groups of people and many other variables.
Him being in power twice is a symptom.

The biggest decline actually happened this term and especially in foreign policy. Some of the things he did no longer can be recovered.
It also looks like it’s pretty much certain that he won’t defend Taiwan which will lead to another unrepairable damage.
