Laws are just words on paper if the people in charge of enforcing them choose not to. We are the people in charge of enforcing the enforcers when things break down - it’s what the second amendment is all about.
They know we won’t do our job when all is said and done, so they no longer have a reason to bother doing theirs when they could instead be paid by the wealthy to look the other way.
Why would that be a tipping point when so many other things have happened that should have been the tipping point?
