The past numbers do not reflect that. The reason the economy stumbles at the beginning of a democratic presidency is simply a combination of the chickens coming home to roost after a period of Republican irresponsibility, and the billionaire class either overreacting or punishing the voters. That, and in general the stock market gets very inflated during GOP administrations.
I have seen it happen time and time again. Big oil in particular punishes the American people for democratic administrations - gas always goes up - for no reason other than to make the economy worse for the middle class and make the administration look bad because people have the memory of a gnat.
