Seriously, it makes no sense! Pokemon have LITERALLY been established to be eaten ever since Generation 1, and Pokemon are still eaten in-universe to this very day. New food-themed Pokemon are made ALL THE TIME, and the eating hasn’t stopped.

Know what the worst part is?

YOU CAN’T EVEN QUESTION THEM!

They get all angry and pissed off, and they refuse to answer the question. “People will find a way to ruin it, and you don’t need to know how!” they say, as if literally ANY conversation can’t be ruined.

Pokemon is a dark franchise that is LITERALLY about animal abuse and child gambling, and it’s full of innapropriate themes. Despite popular belief, Pokemon is NOT an innocent franchise at all!

Why can’t we talk about eating Pokemon if it CANONICALLY HAPPENS all the time?! Why the fuck can’t we even question them?!

Meanwhile in Palworld, you can butcher your pals with a cleaver and feed them to others. No pussyfooting here!

I mean, while it is cannon, they mostly avoid it nowadays because there is so much weird stuff around it. While Pokemon are depicted as animals, many are suggested to be sentient and/or just as intelligent as humans, so things get very messy even within the universal canonical stuff, nonetheless stuff that they’ve swept under the rug.

People also get incensed about it, and at that point, there’s rather an open question about whether an actual productive discussion to be had at all, or whether people would simply start shouting at each other whilst everything goes up on fire.

“Mostly avoid it nowadays”, my ass!

It’s still a MAJOR part of the Pokemon franchise to this day! Sword & Shield, Scarlet & Violet, and even THE LEGENDS GAMES make all sorts of establishments where Pokemon are eaten, wether they’re in Pokedex entries to the literal food you eat in-game. So saying “they mostly avoid it nowadays” is bullshit.

I’m talking entirely out of my ass right now… But I get this weird feeling that there’s some kind of precedent… And it involves either vore or cannibalism (or both?)

    Humans are weird.
Some cultures can’t even think of eating cats and dogs - horses and donkeys. Because “they are family”.
It is the same with imaginary digital friends.

A big part of moderation is enforcing what makes you (the moderator) uncomfortable. The moderator(s) probably have not come to terms with their views on eating meat, so the question makes them uncomfortable, so they ban the discussion to preserve their own feelings.

In a less selfish view, it also probably helps preserve the community because many others are also uncomfortable with their unresolved views on eating animals and might be discouraged from participating if it is discussed. You are probably a microminority in wanting to discuss it and the number of free speech absolutists who will die on the hill of your right to talk about eating roast mareep is also a microminority. As the discussion does not really add anything to the community it costs them almost nothing to keep people comfortable.
