Afaik they just wanted a smaller cable, not a better or safer one. I don’t think they gave a damn, and nvidia was part of the design team for that cable spec…
They just stuffed more power into less cable, AND merged all the cables together on the connector ends, so now you can’t monitor per-pin power draw anymore. It’s a disgrace to electrical engineering.
Yeah, based on their position in the market, Nvidia does seem like the kind of company that would rather settle lawsuits than perform recalls if the former is cheaper. Anything goes then
