Can someone explain to me why someone would wear crocs with the American flag? I get hanging it outside your house. But using it as a fashion item is something my european mind does not comprehend

The flag is never supposed to touch the ground, its considered an insult to the flag and non-patriotic.

So I’m all for it 👍

A lot of people here treat the idea of being American like it’s a sports team.

Also, it isn’t classy. And it isn’t meant to be. It also serves to communicate that you are relatable to other non-classy people. That can mean that you are an 'easy going person who accepts people as they come" or it can mean the same “…if you are white” (and conservative).

There was a popular show here in the 70s called the Dukes of Hazard about outlaw redneck hooligans. They drove a car with a Confederate flag on it. That kind of crass display was part of the ‘fuck you, you can’t tell me what to do’ mentality, and it caught on for the aesthetics despite being racist. But I think it also opened the door here to people doing the same thing with the American flag.

I like that you are more confused about the crocs being american than the nuts that are hanging from them :)

What do the nuts actually symbolize? Im so lost there.

They found a pair at Goodwill or some other discount site and cared more about saving a few bucks than looking stylish.

It’s the same thing that happened to Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines, Cinco de Mayo, St. Patties, insert any and every holiday here.

Perversion of core values to turn a profit. It just so happens perverting American values like ‘freedom’ 1) makes people easy to control and 2) makes it easy to sell them shit like truck nuts for your american flag crocs.

I don’t know, isn’t that weird? Who does that? (US people, obviously, but other than that?)

I mean that’s also a display of performative patriotism but I’ve seen that in a ton of countries (Hungary has flags everywhere). But I’ve never seen it go so far as being made into a fashion item

(Edit: I have actually: UK during the Cool Britannia phase, although it wasn’t meant chauvinisticly there)
