    There’s very few people who have made it to where he is in the music industry who didn’t. Not for any particularly nefarious reason (although there’s usually a bit of nepotism involved as these things often go), but because working in the music industry fucking sucks. You make almost no money when coming up and balancing a full time job with recording and playing shows means you miss out on opportunities all the time. Coming from a rich family who can support you while you focus on music full time drastically increases your chances.

      Compensation in the music business is only adequate if you’re far out on the right tail of the distribution. Having backing from someone with deep pockets as you get to that point definitely helps.
