While I don’t agree with your first statement that this type of gig works is an insult to people who clock in, I have to agree with you that’s it’s a scam to keep the working class down.
Jobs that you have to clock in at are being reduced all over the place at the moment for all kinds of reasons including the shift to AI for things like cashiers so no, I’m not going to look down on people trying to make a living in this crap society.
Back in the day, god I sound old, yes it was that restaurants had to have their own delivery drivers and was an employee of the restaurant and had to either pay for their vehicle or pay for their milage. Yeah, no every restaurant could afford to do so but at least they had a guaranteed income and work protections.
This bullcrap of being independent contractors where you’re at the complete mercy of the general pubic, which is on average full of horrible people in my opinion, and having to pay for your own wear and tear of your personal vehicle and no protections now from customers or the corporation is just another way to exploit the working class.
It’s also a violation of labor laws in many places. It is often forbidden to contract out more than 50% of the primary work done by your company, and they do 100%. Nearly every action this company takes is a violation of a law already on the books, but they got rich enough to bribe away the consequences before they happened.
