First, I have AMD hardware that runs them fine. Second, you aren’t paying a subscription. They don’t care if you already purchased their product. That doesn’t make them additional money. They want a subscription, which is recurring revenue.
Well done you, so am I as it happens, but that doesnt change that the vast majority of LLMs are running on Nvidia cards so they still would be suppressing demand for their own product. talking about subscription fees is just nonsensical here, hugging face is a mirror to host other people’s weights, if they started charging people to just download (as opposed to running models, which they already seem to have a decent business for) people would like choose to host their weights elsewhere.

Most consumers are not purchasing a GPU to run an LLM. They may choose to run one if they own a GPU. This does next to nothing for their demand.
I don’t mean a subscription to Hugging Face. I mean a subscription to an LLM service. They don’t want you owning. They want you renting.
I could see nvidia de-porting the hugging face models and making them harder to run on anything but their chips.
