Any proof this fraternity was actually involved with Israel? Seems plausible, but just seeing the word “Jewish” in an article and jumping to conclusions is a dangerous way of thinking.

It not the article writer fault that the creator of that organization self identify as Jewish not zionists. It is their creators who try to conflate israel with jews

There’s nothing in the article or this comment section to support that claim, you can’t just flip out every time you hear about a Jewish organization

I’m not flipping out, I’m reading their own public platform. Their official stance is that Zionism is central to their identity, and the article uses the word ‘Jewish’ because that is literally how the creator defines it. If checking the public record on an organization’s stated positions bothers you, that’s on you

Is an article supposed to write every single goddamn piece of information about an organization? Because it is not mentioned in the article, it means that what is outside of it is not real? What kind of logic is this? You are doing a classical logical fallacy of appeal to ignorance

Like, if their organization had hosted a speaker from the IDF or tried to coordinate group trips to Israel or put out dumbass statements about Israel and Palestine, people should link to that and then I am 100% ok with attacking them for that shit, because hazing and other kinds of hierarchical violence are totally symptoms of colonizer cultures, but just seeing the word “Jewish” in the article and jumping to that assumption isn’t OK

Israel does a thing where if you’re jewish they offer for you to come visit Israel, I believe paying for travel and stuff for you, as a way of getting you invested in Israel

They do the same thing with politicians. Thats what the other replies are talking about. I’m not super knowledgeable on this so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt, just trying to make more clear what’s meant by the other replies

I’m pretty sure it’s like a coming of age thing, so yeah I think it might be 🤷🏻‍♂️ Like I said, just trying to provide context for the answers others are giving, I cannot provide as helpful of an answer as I would like, I really dont know much about this practice

I just thought the other replies didn’t make much sense without providing an explainer of what kind of practice they were actually characterizing

You’re talking about birthright trips, which are organized by Chabad, a super Zionist org but not Israel itself. They’re free 10 day trips they give to college age students. It is not some Jewish “coming of age” thing or whatever weirdness you’re, I assume unintentionally, veering into some gross territory with.

Thank you for providing more context!

And I mean that does kinda sound like they target young adults who are coming of age? Maybe I’m using the term wrong. Am I understanding correctly that you get old enough and the org offers to fly you to Israel to get you invested in Zionism? Does coming of age mean a different or more specific thing?

Sure, that makes sense, but the Jewish bar and bat mizvah ceremonies are literally cultural coming of age traditions, equivalent to a quincinera or confirmation. Thus the immediate ick reaction when you frame chabadniks doing birthright as “coming of age”.
