Maybe if you’re used to other platforms that do it. But I don’t. I’m used to (). There’s also no communication about this change, they just changed it. Of course it’s easy enough to adapt and not important at all, hence the “mildly” in this community.

I can see why it might be annoying for you, but yknow, nothing would change if u were afraid to upset any of your customers. Besides I’d argue more people would have been midlyinfuriated with () than :: .

As someone whose work requires using Teams, yeah I was annoyed by the parentheses and pleased when they started using colons.

I don’t use Microsoft Teams, but there may be some kind of macro software that can just expand “(thumbsup)” to “” if you feel strongly about it.

I am pleased with this. They need to just do everything else Slack did as well. Teams has been awful to transition to last few months.

Asanoying as it is to change a habit, I would be reallgglad if alotof these things could become standardized accross different products. After all, I don’t speak a different variety ofEnglish just because I switched between Feams, Slack, Discord… so why should anything else I am typing i to the text fields have to change?

    Makes sense

A parenthetical is more likely to be used in normal discourse than a word bookended by colons

As someone who gets annoyed every time a text smiley like :) gets automatically converted to an emoji 🙂, I think that having a total separation from common sentence usage makes sense.
