There is an interesting precursor from the election that made Lincoln president. There were groups of young people forming “Wide-Awake” clubs and demonstrating.

Once all available land is forested you have completely maxed out this option. Then when a tree dies and falls over most of its carbon begins to be released back into the atmosphere by decomposing organisms so you are reliant on another tree taking its place to maintain status quo. Same for any biological solution (algae dies/eaten -> carbon released).

I LOVED Twilight Princess but missed out on Skyward Sword because life got really hectic. Glad I didn’t really miss out from what it sounds like.

There is one important exception for me which was Google Earth. Being able to sit in a chair and drag a huge model of the earth beneath me and view distant places like I was a bird is just magnificent. Doesn’t make me motion sickness the way most games do.

Only exception I make is Edge of Tomorrow which is great. Maybe because his character starts as an entitled ass which feels natural.

Though it occurs to me that she was speaking with an American accent though so I’m not sure of saying she should pronounce it the British way.
SacralPlexus@lemmy.worldto Games@sh.itjust.works•"Y'all are pathetic": Dune: Awakening players are using sandworms to kill their rivals in PvE-only areas, proving once more that nowhere on Arrakis is safeEnglish53·3 个月前I’ve played it for about 6 hours and so far it’s kind of meh. I’ll admit I’ve not made it to the full in deep desert with PVP and so forth so my opinion still might change. But the early game is kind of slow for my tastes and the script writing / story is just senseless video game tripe.
Also a side note is that so far the voice acting for the story stuff is pretty bad overall. My favorite so far was when you’re exploring a shipwreck and find a voice log from the crash and the speaker identifies herself as Ensign whoever. But she mispronounces ensign as “en-sine” which made me do this:
Totally agree. I only got it to play with friends who are into it but was hoping it would be good. The story / cutscenes are so incredibly cheesy to me. It’s almost a parody but the joke never quite lands.

I was really excited for BZ and it fell pretty flat for me. The extra time out of the water just felt so forced and unnatural to me. I was moderately excited by the big ice worm until I actually played and just found it to be a nuisance. I couldn’t get finished with the ice shelf soon enough.
Also, why is everything so much smaller in BZ? It’s THE OCEAN. It’s supposed to be huge. If anything it should be bigger than the first game. Anyways I agree I hope they learned.

So Ulrich is right, it’s absolutely a problem even on newer hardware too.
SacralPlexus@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•‘There were no warning signs’: what happens when your partner falls into the ‘manosphere’?English24·6 个月前Language isn’t always about logic. Discussing things in terms of male/female is fine in many contexts but is often done when discussing science or medical topics. Ex: the male pelvis has a different, narrower shape than the female pelvis. It’s also used in situations where people are deliberately ‘othering’ people. Watch any police bodycam footage and you’ll see that cops frequently say “male/female” when discussing non-police individuals.
In daily life, most people use men/women for non-scientific discourse. The women’s restroom. A group of men at the restaurant. Etc.
But here’s the thing. Male/female are used for any species (a male beetle), but man/woman are only used for humans.
Assholes like Tate push a twist in this dynamic so that men are called men but women are called females because it can be dehumanizing to women. When you say female you could be talking about an insect, but a man is human. It’s a succinct example of their philosophy. That’s why people consider it derogatory.

SacralPlexus@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How are my fellow Americans preparing for the upcoming apocalypse?221·6 个月前This was an interesting read, thank you for sharing. I’m not sure that I find the advice completely applicable to the threats I perceive though. She is describing a situation of open warfare and siege. Our family has tried to prepare a bit for upcoming unrest but I don’t think we foresee it as open siege on a city. In the USA, military might is so advanced that I think any sort of siege/operation is likely to be catastrophic and quick.
The scenario I think is more likely is a more extreme version of the mass supply chain disruptions we experienced during Covid. Longer periods where multiple items just aren’t available. In such a situation it would be good to have extra rice and beans on hand to get you through gaps in availability. Also feel like I should mention that you can get a cheap bidet that you can install yourself from hardware stores for like $100 USD - in case toilet paper disappears again.

There’s just no real leverage, because we’re all interconnected; you can snip one country out, and it’ll slightly hurt everyone, but it’ll *wreck* the country that was snipped out.
This is just such an absolutely perfect summary. I wish we could American politicians to speak this clearly to explain why this is such a bad idea.
