If I may ask, in which field did you end up working?
For me it actually turned out to be IT, and being in the field of specialists that are actively recruited. Gaming always stayed.
There were even bigger floppies before then where the term might have started but the 5 1/4 were those I first knew, with the low capacity (360kb?). It’s still crazy how the amount of memory/storage rose and I sometimes lose track because of that (MB? GB? TB!) as well as my own age (mostly because I don’t care.
Lol I work in public parks picking up litter. It wouldn’t be unfair to say I wasted my abilities, but I had fun doing it. For a while I was getting into early AI stuff in the 90s, but then girls and drugs got in the way. I’ve only recently been getting back into gaming.
Yeah it’s amazing to me the way I’ve seen tech advance during my lifetime. Those 5 1/4 floppies were incredible at the time, especially for those of us who had previously been saving our code on cassette recorders - but compare that shit with a micro SD card and wow, seems beyond exponential.
I do sometimes think I’d like to start coding again, just for my own pleasure, but I’d be pretty much starting from scratch and TBH I don’t have a lot of time. Also, feels a bit pointless when Claude or whatever would probably do a better job lol
Wow, I honestly think what you’re doing is far more of a service to humanity than working for any soulless corporation enriching someone. So 👍 to that.
