Donald Trump’s vision is one where he’s the dictator and everybody else is his slave. To do that, he needs to destroy American democracy and throw out the US Constitution and our rights along with it. No, the horrible outcome that we’re currently living through is only part of Trump’s vision. If he fulfills his vision, everything will be much worse, and we’ll all be wishing we could go back to these times.
You aren’t wrong but that argument only resonates with people that already agree with it. Focusing on the day to day impact is the way to go here.
This isn’t a bad approach at all. Lots of voters have zero interest in topics like history, or the study of fascist ideology. They mostly don’t even know what socialism or communism is, aside from the Red Scare propaganda fed to them.
People who aren’t necessarily receptive to progressive leftist policies are indeed most concerned about things that affect them on the day-to-day. Heck, Lenin and Trotsky were able to build a mass movement by winning over poor, reactionary and uneducated peasants who had been heavily oppressed under the tsars.
