House Democratic leader meets with president’s son-in-law has ignited fury amongst own party
Democrats incredulous over Hakeem Jeffries and Jared Kushner meeting Over a dozen US companies that signed a 2021 letter urging Congress to strengthen the Voting Rights Act continue to contribute to state political groups that are actively working to undermine the legislation, according to a campaign finance watchdog. Researchers at the Center for Political Accountability (CPA), a nonpartisan organization that tr…
The Democratic Party is complicit. They are not going to save you.
Or more accurately; A majority of national DNC members are effectively controlled opposition. They will not save you.
The DNC establishment, not the party itself. There are many great candidates running under the party.
The DNC is clutching its pearls with one hand, but jerking off with the other.
Jerking off the tech bros with the other
Pretty sad that he was uncontested in his primary race this year.
There was a challanger, but not even the progressive side supporter him
His possible opponent was talked out of it because it could harm NYC getting NY gov support 😭
Hopefully no one is surprised by this. Hakeem has always been a piece of shit.
So, people are clutching their pearls because Jeffries thought having a functional government was a good idea?
And Kushner had to do it secretly because the GOP has gone insane. Ronald Reagan used to meet with Tip O’Neil on a regular basis. I guess that means Ronnie was ‘woke.’
Oh no, there’s a difference here. Tip was the House Speaker in the Reagan years, he had actual control of the House, a result of his leadership of the side who won the most seats in an election.
Kushner has never won an election. His only qualifying trait is the fact that he is married to the President’s daughter.
I would expect that Jeffries would talk with the White House from time to time. But if Jeffries were a smart politician, he would publicly point out how he had to go to the President’s son-in-law to get anything done, and let people realize how bonkers that is. Alas, Jeffries has proven to be not so smart.
So, you think he should cut off the one line of communication? I don’t think that’s the smart play at all.
Jeffries is already hated by people on both sides. He won his home district primary so he has room to operate.
Dealing with someone as stupid and as powerful as Trump isn’t easy. You can’t unblock a sewer without getting dirty.
If it means we get a working FDA and CDC now, I’m all for it.
You don’t get it. I would work directly with Jared, while making sure everyone knows how bonkers it is to have to work through the President’s son-in-law on official business.
Jon Ossoff gets it. He just planted a little one-liner about how Trump likes to “travel with Natalie” and the media did the rest…
There’s the political campaign and there’s running the actual government.
Enemy nations do backdoor deals all the time.
So long as rfk is there no chance
It’s hilarious to me that people are down voting me because I want a functional government.
Obviously it’s an uphill battle to get Donnie to admit any mistakes, but I’d take any chance.
It’s not because you want a functional government its that you’re trying to justify compromise with modern nazis. Especially on lemmy you’re not going to have much support for any compromise position in the first place, then with fascists all anyone can see is how far right parties are enabled and take over a country as happened with the Nazis in Germany.
You think that people should die from eating tainted food? Or suffer because we can’t have FEMA helping during disasters?
“It’s okay for innocent people to suffer if it means we get rid of the bad people.” Is that what you think?
Read my posts. I hate Trump as much as anyone.
No, I just know better than to believe that the bad people can be anything other than bad. They’ve repeatedly proven that these bad things are what they want. What is the compromise? “I’ll give you another billion if you promise to let the federal agencies actually do their job again?” They’ll take the money and still leave the agencies non-functional just because they know their word is meaningless and they get off on you expecting/begging them to be reasonable.
Its a paradox of tolerance situation.
This is so wildly naive I cannot tell if you are joking or not.
I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are still learning about this topic, instead of a troll. Jared Kushner does not hold a government position. He serves as an outside adviser and informal envoy, assisting with foreign policy and negotiations without holding a formal cabinet position. Jeffries talking to Kushner has nothing to do with wanting or having a functional government. Any influence Kushner has in the world is through his association with the Trump brand and his/Trump’s money.
After leaving the White House, Jared Kushner started a private equity firm named Affinity Partners. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia invested $2 billion into this firm. Kushner’s firm has collected over $110 million in management fees from the Saudi government and other Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds, even before producing major investment profits for them.
So, if Kushner is unofficially advising Trump/The white house, this really looks like Saudi Arabia is bribing Kushner for access via a bullshit investment into Kushner’s company. Furthermore, Iran is not on good terms with Saudi Arabia. So if you’re thinking Jeffries is using Kushner’s relationship with the Saudis to leverage ceasefire with Iran. That’s the least likely outcome. The Saudi’s would rather we keep up the conflict with Iran.
Kushner, (and Trump,) are corrupt as fuck. Nothing good will come of Jeffries talking with Kushner. There are other avenues for Jeffries to speak with the president and participate in foreign policy. This just makes Jeffries look super corrupt and complicit with the trump administration.
But Jefferies won his primary, he has the mandate of his district.
The only reason why he won his primary is because the person running against him didn’t get financial support from DSA the way other candidates did. The DSA thought it would be too costly to try and oust Jefferies, so they focused on other primaries that were more winnable. If anything, this might piss off enough democrats in his district that they vote against him for a republican, or just don’t vote period. I honestly think that this will be one of the nails in the coffin of Jefferies political career.
