Some 92 percent have delayed or abandoned medical care because of costs, according to a survey of 1,507 U.S.adults by financial services firm JG Wentworth.
High prices at the doctor’s office, urgent care, emergency room and more have led to 85 percent of Americans having medical debt. Collectively, American consumers have $220 billion in medical debt, according to a February poll from KFF - that’s around $958.61 per adult with medical debt.
Nearly one in five adults said their health got worse because they skipped a doctor’s visit. That problem is more acute for those 64 and younger - 42 percent say their health got worse after putting off a medical visit.
Yeah but we can’t change it because republicans love dying
They love other people dying. They’re just willing to guarantee their own death to make that a reality.
It’s better for my credit rating if I just die.
also dental isnt covered if you buy insurance from your states ACA exchange, you have to buy separately, So any major dental procedures like root canals, extractins, crowns, etc have a 6month waiting period and only covers less than 2000 a year. excluding orthodontics, and jaw surgery.
So any major dental procedures
Straight to mexico
The shocking thing is the propaganda in the headline saying this is “shocking”.
Where is the call for violent overthrow of the regime?
We are exhausting the same option over and over and over. I think its probably gonna happen the next time democrats run a hope and change candidate in 2108.
Where? 1/6/2021.
Oh, reasonable and justified calls. Sorry, no,all out those. We’ll be doing the 24th No Kings protest instead.
I find it so interesting when the centrists claim that universal healthcare is unaffordable. Cuz, uh, you know what’s even less affordable? Whatever yalls have right now. And you know it, but fuck the facts.
I also love the claim that it will take so much longer to receive care. I’m trying to find a new therapist, and even with my amazing health insurance I’m looking at October 28th at the earliest with any therapist, or January for one that seems more aligned with my issues.
Had suicidal ideation a few days ago. Tried to check into a local crisis center. They declined admission and basically told me get a new therapist, try yoga and meditation. One of the therapists the suggested isn’t taking new clients, the other doesn’t accept my insurance.
I’m holding on as best as I can, but the system failing me like this isn’t making life any easier. I do still have a therapist that I will see by the end of this week, but he basically just listens and says “wow that’s sounds incredibly painful”.
Had suicidal ideation a few days ago.
Just the normal amount or was it really bad?
I’m so sorry to hear that. I’ve also been there for quite a while, and I found something that really helped me: parachuting! It’s a bit expensive, but if you can afford it, I’d highly recommend it! It’s helped me a ton!!
i think they are complacent, because some of them are well off enough to have “insurance” through thier employers that the insurance is willing to pay for most of the cost. when they see copays of 15-40$, they dont actually see its really 300-420$ actual cost per visit.
dental is even worst, they think tooth extraction is only a couple hundred when its actual 500-700$ on average as Out of pocket, and 400$ for root canal instead of 1200-2000$/tooth(not including crowns. and some dental pratices will upcharge. i had to go to an emergency dentist recently, and they charge an arm and leg for most things, even when compared to other dentists around them, they are like 50-100% more expensive. they are fine for emergency dental appts but not for general care. luckily i was able to find cheaper dentists around to take care of a severe tooth issue.
Yay I’m in the 8% but now my year renews and I wont go.
Ah, I see you got the Medicaid letter as well?
$30k in debt because I didn’t feel like dying in June! Eagle screech
Revolution is required
You don’t go to the doctor because it’s too expensive.
I don’t go to the doctor because I don’t wanna find out what’s wrong with my body.
We are not the same.
Don’t worry. You go to the doctor and pay out the ass just to be told the most basic irrelevant blood work came back normal, so there’s nothing wrong with you, it’s probably just stress and anxiety, and don’t come back unless you have one of the 5 conditions that the office actually treats.
+1. If they can not come up with any medical explanation, in most situations they can’t, they’ll pick the good old “Do you smoke?” card. And if you do, as most stressed people coming from a shitty family background do, the medical advice you get will be: “Well, quit then!”! Lol
It’s worse than that. Doctors aren’t as smart as you think they are. Not an insult but it takes years of having a patient to get a rough idea what’s actually going on. Hard to do that when your insurance keeps changing every year.
or when doctors in many networks are forced to only see thier pateints at 20minutes or less.
This is by design. The government wants this for us.
Insurers want this for us. It’s like a subscription fee you’ve forgotten about or a gym membership you keep telling yourself you’ll start using again. The existing establishment wants their lobby money to keep flowing. Bringing in new leaders who actually care about the people should be the voters goal. I think we’re waking up as a populace but we’ve got everything working against us. We just needed the world to literally burn around us to give a shit tho.
Edit: stats they aren’t even paying a lot of money to accomplish their goal.
planet fitness model, they encourage people to pay, but not to use the gym facilities.
Rich people want everyone else to get shut out of medical care so they are doctors’ only priority. That’s one facet of the permanent underclass they hope for.
Slaves are easy to control when they are afraid. Afraid to get sick, afraid to get help, because they are afraid to go in debt.
A lot of people say the world is three meals away from revolution, but in reality it’s three meals away from selling their own mother for a can of dog food.
Isn’t it more specifically three missed meals?
If only I had three straight meals I’d get all revolutionary.
Not adopting socialism is expensive.
Whether you’re counting in dollars or lives
We need healthcare to be cost prohibitive because there’s not enough doctors or nurses to care for everyone.
Reasons for that likely because of the rising costs of tuition and the non-rising salaries, and complete forfeiture of your life during your bodies peak years.
It’s all working as designed, because it’s designed to keep us sick and in deep debt, perpetually afraid of the double-blow of getting sick and losing our jobs to keep us showing up to work every day. We are expendable cogs in a capitalist machine, and our lives have no value beyond what we can produce for the shareholders.
We have it only slightly better than dairy cows, in that we aren’t literally getting fucked our entire career, and we get to keep living for a couple more years after we’re no longer productive enough to keep working (if we were fortunate enough to save up for it).
And even at that…the cows at least get free healthcare, and food, and shelter provided for them. Most of them see more sunlight than most of us, too.
If you didn’t know, congress artificially caps the number of people that can become doctors each year (I believe it’s the funding for residency spots). That’s the main idiotic reason there’s not enough doctors.
also thier salary, if there is too many doctors, they would have to lower the salaries eventually. Also depending on your specialty, certain residencies have higher job pay, like surgeons, and specific specialists(especially if you are an MD and also in research like for cancer). also to make things worst is PE firms/teledoc is snatching up doctors too.
not the shitty mega farm cows, but some of the more bougie farm cows have better care than we do.
i think nurses are churned out enough, but they get abused way too much so they leave or work less, or become travelling nurses. DOCTOR is where the problem, High med school cost, competitive, also AMA gatekeeps the licensing.
Its notoriously expensive to go to med school, not to mention that most people who could go and pass absolutely should NOT be doctors for emotional intelligence reasons. I think the population is cooked and the incentives dont exist past altruism
I don’t have insurance. I hope for the best until I have to visit an urgent care.
I have insurance with a high deductible and copays. It doesn’t help. It cost me $60 to see an orthopedic specialist to say we didn’t need to do steroid injections yet. Just to see them, it’s five times the cost for said shots. Our entire system is a sham.
remember schumer and his ilk stopped the lockdown, almost everyones aca plans went up thier DEDUCTIBLES/OOP. i notice mines was quite high, compared to people who bough the same plans before the lockdown.
Seeing someone to just be told to wait / come back is infuriating. People are like “you dont work for free” but i sure as fuck don’t bill per message beginning the moment i get any message at all!
I wonder if these adults will start voting for people interested in socialized medicine?
Rolls around in free checkups, hospital visits, and cheap medications.
No, you wouldn’t want this. It’s awful! Your GDP couldn’t possibly afford it.
If the crash that many are predicting is actually coming, we might not be able to afford it for a while, until we actually get corps and the rich to put into society again
Socialised healthcare is actually cheaper than non socialised healthcare
Yes we know. So everyone needs to stop voting for people who take bribes to prevent us from getting it
The problem is that our political system… what remains of it at this point… is rigged to represent the dumbest 1/3rd of the population with roughly 3/5th of the effective governmental lawmaking power.
Not the trump voters. N
If it’s still possible for voting to work, we have to get rid of all the establishment corpo-critters, the ones taking money from AIPAC, etc. Many leftist social dems are winning primaries, get them in office this November and maybe we can stem the tide. Maybe.
Just like Biden was interested in $15 an hour?
Just like Trump was interested in no wars?
(it doesn’t matter what they say they are interested in. Don’t be a sucker)
Anytime Biden tried to do anything good for people like cancel student loans, he’s been blocked by Republicans at every turn.
As was the plan all along for an establishment ghoul
You think the Biden administration fought for it all the way to the Supreme(-ly Corrupt) Court, hoping it would be struck down? Really, you think this was the intended plan?
Biden was the senator who authored, sponsored, and loudly endorsed the 2005 BAPCPA legislation, which prevents student loan borrowers from declaring bankruptcy over their crushing debt. Hot on the heels of GWB removing the tuition increase caps for state universities. Senator Biden of Delaware was literally “their guy” - meaning the student loan lenders and accompanying financial institutions.
So no, he was doing his job by ensuring the debt forgiveness did not succeed. Or if it did, that 95% of recipients would be means tested out of it. This complements his job as a centrist corporate ghoul - to trick people into believing the democrats would do something to meaningfully improve their lives, if only those pesky republicans would let them.
Or, you know, in the 15 years between that and his administration he saw the data and changed his views. That is a thing people can do, you know?
Let us know when you change your view of the democrats intentions. Maybe you need just a little bit more data.
Bad take. Presidents can’t set the Federal Minimum Wage unilaterally, yet alone state level minimum wages.
