Seriously this. What’s up with people pronouncing tech acronyms? It’s not “gooey”, it’s G-U-I. I’ll make an exception for file formats (llke .gif), because they’re written with lowercase letters.
I do say gooey though. Because it’s easy to pronounce and has an existing English equivalent homophone.
UEFI does not.
I also say Wizzy Wig.
And usually I say sequel instead of SQL. Though I think I switch back and forth with that one, probably based on context, but I can’t explain when or why now that I’m trying to think about it.
Gooey is ubiquitous though.
I only every hear people say that, or “graphical user interface”, never “GUI”
and what about BIOS ?
That’s what I’ve always done, though someone mentioned their native language being the conflict, so maybe in other languages the E sound is better marked with an i for some, no idea.

systemctl reboot --firmware-setupThis will cause a Linux machine to reboot directly into the UEFI. I know it’s not groundbreaking but it can be really handy if you use fast-boot. At least your days of pecking the Delete key during POST will be over.
Windows does this too, though I’ve forgotten the method.

Sidenote: if you dualboot, I can’t recommend enough setting up a desktop entry which runs this command:

I say “yoofee”, but it hasn’t mattered so far because I’m pretty sure I’ve never actually said it to anyone.
I work close to firmware and this is how we all say it, and we say it often. When speaking to execs it’s always said by pronouncing each letter. You can watch us code shift (lingually) in meetings depending on who is asking the question.

fuck UEFI, it was a solution to a problem that Microsoft and all the tech oligopolies made up.
I thought UEFI was just a solution to move to be able to work on GPT. Essentially the old setup (MBR)could only max out at 2.2 terabytes of storage, so if you needed more you were hosed. GPT can support magnitudes more storage and could support a lot more partitions. (Instead of 4, you could do say 32 without issue)

I would say that if UEFI can run doom it’s needlessly complex as a BIOS alternative.

I think BIOS has just morphed into meaning the firmware interface, nobody calls it UEFI. Everyone does indeed just say BIOS, which is okay. You can be more specific when it matters, which is basically never in the mass market.
Like asking for a bandaid. Everyone knows what you mean, and asking for one and getting a generic bandage isn’t going to matter.
