And when you have almost half of America believing that shared delusion…
trump is a liar,
That’s bad, but he’s delulu,
And that’s even worse!
Presidents can set the mood of an entire country. JFK gave one speech where he inspired a country to rise up to the challenge of reaching the moon. Carefully chosen words meant to inspire and motivate.
Living under a Trump administration is like living next to a stupid 12yo bully who hits your house with sticks every day, throws rocks at your windows and yells and screams outside your house all the time. It’s no wonder people feel constantly aggravated, on edge, and despondent.
Corruption got so bad in america that it was quite easy for a guy like trump to be the tipping point. He is the face of what existed all along.
There are lots of bad people like this - mentally unwell, think the world revolves around them, pathological liars, and generally very, very fucking stupid.
What’s much sadder is that out of all the people that could be President, this asshole is in the office, and still has support, despite all the constant lying.
Liar. Delusional. Pedophile. Rapist. Con-man. Corrupt. Draft dodger. Moron. Orange.
Feel free to add what I forgot…
Smelly.
Bad hair. Incontinent. Demented. Wasteman.
Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, adulterous, convicted felon, multiple-child-rapist, warmongering, minimally-sentient shitstain. We can keep this list going a looooooooong time
Fat. Bigly.
For someone who uses the "Thou Shalt Not"s in the bible as a checklist, he really has convinced a surprising number of Christians that think he’s a holy icon.
The fact that he is all of that is one thing. But normally society would work to minimize the impact. The problem is we have 1/3 of this country and multiple branches of government enabling it. And that’s the biggest reason we’re fucked.
He has dementia. They’ve known he’s got dementia since his first term.
Every day that passes without the 25th Amendment being invoked, Article 2 Section IV of the US Constitution being invoked, or articles of impeachment being filed is a day that every sitting member of Congress announces their complicity in subverting American Democracy.
Every day that passes without the American public taking to the streets in protest is a day that every American citizen announces their complicity in allowing their nation to no longer follow the rule of law.
Many in Congress think he was put there by the god from the Hebrew bible, to do the work of their god.
Not a single one really believes that bullshit. They’re just liars and con artists too.
There may be a few true believers among them. Would not surprise me if Marklar Mikey Johnson really believed that. He’s the one with that weird porn spyware on his and his son’s phone.
But the grift is always part of it in either case, and plenty of them know that their idiotic unhinged base absolutely believe that little-d donnie was put there by their god.
Yes. Rampant untreated mental illness is a consequence of not having universal health care.
I think even if we had it, so much privileging of crazy beliefs would continue to leave this kind of thing untreated.
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’”
–Asimov
It’s so weird how differently things like athletics vs. expertise of the intellectual kind are treated in this country. You can say things like “elite athlete” unironically and that won’t really provoke resistance against that.
People that think they can out-sportsball an elite athlete are viewed by most as utterly delusional, because they probably are.
But when so many of my fellow Americans see an expert on some scientific topic, they’ll sneer and grumble about “elitists” and how we don’t need experts, we have “common sense”.
They get stuck at the stage after right/wrong thinking, both sides have merit, but don’t continue to grow and use critical analysis to weigh which is better for humanity, or profit, however they judge what is good.
Every day that passes with your nation doing business with the USA and using the US dollar for oil and trade proves your complicity in the machine as you feed the beast that no longer follows the rule of law.
Hilarious that you think I’m not American.
Hilarious that you think that I thought you were from any country.
I’m not writing to you as an individual, gentle soul. It doesn’t matter where you are from.
Quite sanctimonius. I am sure your country is perfect though, no need for you to follow your own mandates for us.
I love it when people tell on themselves with their assumptions. Projection ain’t just for the cinema, buddy.
Narcissists die lonely.
Too bad narcissism doesn’t radically shorten their lifespans.
Or stop them from having worse successors.
In my experience, this is true. They would rather protect their image at all costs than have a relationship with others.
No way does almost half of America believe this dude.
Look at his polling numbers, and that is often just among likely voters - a small minority of the population.
Dude is a turd and 70-80% of America knows it, even if they can’t do anything about it, and trust he is trying to keep it that way: y’all should make sure your ballot isn’t going to get blocked by the turd’s executive order to USPS. He definitely doesn’t want you voting.
They don’t care if he’s a corrupt liar, as long as he continues to persecute their chosen scapegoats.
half don’t vote to start with, so it’s 25% that support him. Of them, 1/3 are his hardcore base. Some of the remainder are hardcore partisans. Same with the dem establishment, 30% are sheep.
Senile.
I’m not seeing a dramatic change from his first term, frankly. (Not in him personally. The huge cadre of evil un-American trolls in his administration is indeed a big difference.)
His beliefs are lightly held, strategic choices of self-motivation and self-mythology. He announces a thing, or professes belief in a thing, as a first step toward manifesting that thing. He always has. It fails most of the time, but he has no other way of relating to the world around him. If that’s delusion, he’s been deluded his whole adult life.
