Gonna copy my comment from another other thread on this, but if the prices, animal ethics, and environmental effects weren’t enough to push people towards plant-based diets, maybe more meat recalls will do the trick
(or I guess plant-based diets that exclude lettuce anyway)
Keep in mind the bar for meat is also super low. With plants the assumption is that it’s safe to eat raw so it’s regulated that way even if you’re cooking the stuff. It’s not regulated that way for meat. Chicken is allowed to have 25% of samples positive for Salmonella and they don’t have power to enforce if it’s crossed. Hundreds of thousands of people are hospitalized with Salmonella each year
Yeah, no. Doesn’t help with unknown ingredients, allergen, or what bacteria produces when present. There is a misconception that just killing bacteria with heat is enough. It is not. Bacteria can produce toxins as they munch on whatever they’re eating.

Plants get recalled more than meat does, lmao

In any case, we should still very much be concerned about the environmental effects and ethical side too which does not change based on recalls
Just broil or boil fucking everything is the lesson here.

Oh okay, guess I’ll eat nothing since that’s an option
Don’t be deliberately obtuse.
Proper cooking helps. Boiling everything can help, sometimes. It’s not a full solution.
Botulism and Staph, for example, do not care if you’ve boiled your food.
Wow I can see how that’s exactly what I said 👍
Thanks for reiterating the point I was making and deciding this is somehow correcting me I guess?
Maybe just don’t eat the recalled meat?
Did you miss the bit at the end about lettuce (not the only plant that can get contaminated)?
