Inverted hamburger buns, processed American cheese food product, bacon, jalapeno, chips, dip. Mayo for browning.
Cost per person $1.78
I’ve been hearing about this mayo for browning thing. Your picture may have convinced me to try it. Do you also use butter or just sub mayo?
Just mayo. I was a skeptic and then I tried it and it offers the absolute best results of all the alternatives.
You just put mayo like you would with butter and fry it? Also why mayo and npt e.g. butter
You just slather it on just like butter and fry it. It browns the bread better than anything else. I used to use butter or olive oil. But mayo just offers results that were so superior that I cook go back.
I think you mean a melt.
That’s a fine looking melt!
I too remember the Reddit melt down vs grilled cheese.
if you remember them why did you do this?
Because I don’t care enough and haven’t been back to reddit since the great moderator revolt of 2023.
2023? Fuck has it been that long?
Yup.
Throw a burger patty in the middle, it’s incredible.
Nobody has that kind of money.
Just find a meat grinder at a thrift store, and locate your nearest billionaire
Carnivores make for very toxic meat due to bioaccumulation. And I live in rural Lesser Carolina so the nearest billionaire is a lot of gas money away. But I already have a meat grinder. So I have that going for me. Which is nice.
So what you’re saying is, go for vegan/vegetarian billionaires?
My lawyer says that I can’t say that. My nutritionist says you want only a lifelong vegetarian/vegan billionaire. Not someone that adopted it in their teens.
My mouth is watering
‘Processed american cheese’ is redundant, as is ‘food product’.
Don’t talk shit about processed american whey based imitation cheese product
I’ll talk badly about it when you can go to any store’s deli to get real American cheese that is actual cheese. (American cheese proper is just colby and jack melted with sodium citrate which changes the physics a bit, so it’s legit and delicious. Kraft Singles are shitty, but are good for some melty applications - but real American cheese is always better)
I don’t know if I’ve ever had actual american cheese (I’m Canadian), I’ve eaten over the border countless times and there could have been american cheese in my burgers but I can’t say I’ve knowingly eaten it. Is it the same as government cheese? Do they come in blocks or individually wrapped like kraft singles? I really only know about it through memes and pictures and to me, it just looks like the typical mass produced cheddar blocks you can get at any grocery.
Well, there is a huge HUGE variety in cheese quality in general. American cheese is no different.
US Government cheese is American cheese, although while classic American cheese is made from colby and jack, a wider variety can go into Government cheese. I cannot speak to the quality of it at all, having never had it to my knowledge. But at least it should be better than Kraft singles (which do still have a place, imho, just a small one. lol. Like… fine on a burger or whatever)
Anything single-wrapped in plastic is almost certainly “cheese food” or whatever.
In the deli, it will come in typically five or I think ten pound blocks - blocks, anyway. It can be sliced like any cheese.
To me, cheese is many different things. I enjoy your standard cheese types sold in most grocery stores, although I also enjoy cheese from a dedicated cheese shop on a wholly different level. I have a number of favorites that I will have a couple of ounces of along with some fancy crackers, good sweet gherkins, black olives, various things like that - or a good crusty bread or a nice challah or something.
So deli American cheese doesn’t rise to THAT level, altough just tonight I had some great smoked gruyere along with Boar’s Head yellow American and sweet gherkins for a snack, and the American held its own in that mix. heh.
I would say that I personally prefer a nice sharp cheddar - anything below medium is boring, so even a good quality mild cheddar is pretty boring to me. It’s not a fair analogy, but I’d say the cheese food stuff is like a mild cheddar - fine but boring. Gimme a nice extra sharp and we’re talking. Well, gimme a good deli American cheese and it’s one I’ll eat on its own. Lesser stuff is only okay if it’s melty on some sandwich or something.
I hope that helps a bit. lol. I’d imagine your local deli should have some sort of American cheese, though I don’t know that for sure. It’s just that it’s really common for sandwiches, so if they have a decent cheese selection, surely they will. lol. Board’s Head makes a good one, Land’O’Lakes is pretty decent. I can’t think of any others, but I have forgotten a common brand or two that should exist. heh.
“American cheese” is defined as cheddar cheese, Colby cheese, washed curd cheese, or granular cheese, or any mixture of two or more of those. Kraft Singles are a “Pasteurized process American cheese food product” by staying above 51% actual cheese, with the rest being added milk, cream, or whey, or products of these.
You have to capitalize Colby, or the Colby people will send their agents out after you.
I’m half-joking. We used to have “Co-Jack” cheese but they made a huge deal about it. It can’t be called Colby if it’s mixed with anything else.

Damn straight it is.
All cheese is processed
I’m sure this loaded headline in a wine blog is the start of a totally impartial article.
I’m sure you can’t find your own damn source, then.
But not all cheese is post-processed.
There’s a clear difference between processed cheese food product and cheese which goes through a process to become cheese. And in the United States, despite our lax standards, first one cannot legally be labeled “cheese”.
What kind of dip?
Sour cream and a beefy onion soup mix packet. Way better than French onion soup mixed cream.
Looks delicious, I also want to die young
Things like this help prevent me from getting underweight or my cholesterol from getting too low.
