About 25% of Americans are extremely happy with how things are going. About half are pissed off, and another 25% have no idea what’s going on.

Some of the pissed off people voted for Trump and expected something else, the rest of us have been trying to explain for years that exactly this would happen if he was reelected.

As an American I am not remotely surprise by anything this administration has done…

To be very clear I didn’t vote for this shit, I just have to live with it.

    because most people are stupid.

like, literally so stupid they do shit like drive drunk and are shocked that they crash the car. how could this possible happen? i wasn’t ‘really drunk’! when they had just had 6 drinks in the past two hours.

they do not think they should be responsible for the consequences of their own actions. the rules do not apply to them, they apply to OTHER PEOPLE.

You can see this, again and again and again, in daily life. Not just in politics. In politics it’s way worse, because the consequences of our political actions, are years/generations removed from the time of choice.

    Washington couldn’t tell a lie

    Nixon couldn’t tell the truth

    Trump couldn’t tell the difference

Your are asking two separate questions.

Question one: Was America surprised when he was re elected?

Yes, because the first time was a shit show of horror, and at least half the country couldn’t believe the other half wanted that to happen again, regardless of how bad a candidate Kamala was.

Question two: Are all politicians liars and cheat?

Yes, but Trump is several orders of magnitude worse than all the others combined. Openly soliciting bribes and publicly accepting and wallowing in them. All while using the constitution to wipe his ass and just laugh.

It really come down to scale, all the shit the Clintons and bushes and even Nixon have done just dont hold a candle to the lawless murder and greed trump is engaged in. Nothing like this has occurred before in the modern era. And remember, I’m including the illegal secret war Nixon created.

It was very telling when Megan Kelly recently said she was shocked that the corruption was worse than she expected. Expected. They knew he was a liar, cheat, fraudster, abuser… they wanted to weaponize him against people they hate, and the economic pain and other worsenings were just the price they were willing to pay to get that.

Yup. I was on a golf course in Florida and over heard some republicans talking about. One Said “He has always been a crook, the question is will he do what we want him to do”.

A lot of other commenters have mentioned things that are correct but I would like to add another that I haven’t seen mentioned:

A lot of people didn’t vote thinking that there was no way the people who do would let it happen again. With the exception of 2020, IIRC, the “winner” in pretty much every recent election has been the non voting block. Meaning more people don’t vote than do.

I don’t think trump lied. Prior to 2024, he said in every interview that he planned to do all the things he is doing.

When asked what his plan about the affordable care act was, he replied that he has “concepts of a plan”.

When asked what he plans to do if he loses the 2024 election, he replied “We already have all the votes we need. We rigged it so hard that Kamala can’t can’t rig it any harder. We have enough votes that you’ll never need to vote in another election ever again. We’ve taken care of all that.”

He said that in September 2024.

When asked what he was going to do about offshore drilling, he said that he was going to cut the red tape, and drill drill drill. He said everybody was going to make a lot of money.

I could keep going with an endless supply of examples. I’m pulling all these off the top of my head, but he NEVER SHUTS UP. And it’s all documented online somewhere.

So I can research more terrible things he’s said, but the basic jist is, he walked in the door, said he was going to do terrible things. People responded by NOT BELIEVING HIM!!! Now they’re surprised he’s doing the things he said he’d do.

Yes, he is the only honest politician maybe in history, but his message was “Fuck you. Fuck all of you. I’m going to fuck shit up.” And people laughed.

So, of all the things to blame trump for, I don’t think lying is something you can really hold against him.

Except the epstein stuff. He CONSTANTLY lies and dodges that subject.

      every politician lies.

Trump just does it BIGGER AND BETTER. and people like that. they like the boldness.

just think about how in your own life… how often socially popular people are the biggest liars and bullshitters you probably personally know. but everyone still admires them because they are ‘confident’.

About half of the right are people who hold certain beliefs and can talk about them. These people can recognize when they are wrong and make changes, though many of them will double down and vote their party no matter what. The other half is full of people who make the politics part of their identity, see it as a zero-sum game, and want to actively harm people they disagree with. The people who are surprised are on the first group.
