I tried to explain the concept of cute aggression to someone who’s never experienced it before. It did not go well. They thought I wanted to hurt puppies.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s when you see a cute thing, like a puppy. And it makes you want to shake the puppy and hug him so tight that his body turns into liquefied puppy batter that splatters all over your face.

…I’m bad at explaining things.

Count me in on cute aggression - my 4 cats are regular victims of cuddle attacks, and one of them is so extra cute and loves me so much giving me soft love bites on my arm (maybe she has the same thing?) - when she does this i really get aggressive when petting her - and she loves it, giving me lots of kisses while i stroke her belly from top to bottom, if she doesnt zone out and start drooling

excuse me, i’ve got to grab my kittie now - aggressively lol

    • Yeeeeah… um… except OP includes the consequences. Most people want to squeeze but stop at the wanting to splatter their pets to goo. That’s where it goes from “normal” to “psycho.”

Really. Do you really empathize with squeezing your pet so hard you kill it? I think most people’s cute aggression desire stops before the killing.

I want a quantum superstate to exist wherein I both squeeze my cat as hard as I want and she enjoys the experience, suffering no harm.

        • Yes!

Current understanding of cat psychology is that being constrained is calming to them, so there’s a good chance that your cat enjoys being given a firm but gentle (i.e., not to goo) squeeze.

A hypothetical pet that’s basically a stress ball that loves being squished would be ideal, but a cat is pretty close!

      • it’s a bit like intrusive thoughts, a mental picture of violence. it’s a bit embarrassing to acknowledge to have such violent imagery, but i don’t act on it.

Intrusive thoughts is something many people have, and if you aren’t damaged as fuck, you won’t act on them. Something else to compare it with would be the call of the void - that feels similar.

I have cute aggression so, so badly. And I work in vet med, so there are many opportunities for me to be violent with puppies and kittens if I were actually inclined to. Do I? No. Instead, I’m just damn good at my job. :p

Yep, I get it. Think I have it, used to have a very independent tomcat living with me (he was not my pet, they were all my flatmates, one of the dogs was my brother, so you get an idea of the type of relationships going on). We got along very well, but he LOVED to play-hunt me around the apartment (he had a lot of verticality at his disposal), so much so that he became that lovable sort of annoying. He’d hop in my lap and I’d get that urge to lovingly squish his brains out when massaging his face (he also loved this=))) ).

Or how I’d hug my first cat Maia, a very Bothered™ and aloof individual in general, giving her a tight but benign squeeze, or would hold her for a couple more seconds once she’d had enough of the touching, already!:))

On the flipside, Ralph, the German Shepherd who was also my brother, loved doing this to me! He’d drop me to the ground, then would sit on me (he was a big boy, and I was ~30cm shorter at the time=)) ), or he’d paw me heavily when I started annoying him by pretending to ignore him, stuff like that:))) Oh! And he loved chewing mum’s hair because he knew she hated it=))))

Or you have never heard the term before and just heard it for the first time… And think it’s when someone acting cute to do something really shitty and then get upset that their bullshit crossed a line
