Republicans must be scared of Talarico. His message seems to resonate with his base. He’s a white christian man, so in other words “Just a great guy!” in their view.

Also, he’s not afraid to call out the establishment. The republican base likes that kind of stuff, they’ve just been misled into believing that “the establishment” means jews and diversity hires instead of corporate-financial oligarchs and their political lackeys.

Talarico has been pretty effective at meeting these people where they’re at and redirecting their ire towards the oligarchy where it belongs.

    That must terrify republican politicians.

They are going to harp on Trans-everything this year, which affects almost nobody, because it’s all they’ve got. They’ve got nothing successful to point to, or even something that has the potential to be successful. They can’t criticize Dems, because they’re right about EVERYTHING, and they don’t want to point it out.

If you hear a MAGA going on about Trans stuff, ask them how many trans people they know,.or have ever known. When they tell you none, tell them to worry about stuff that’s real, like their empty fridge.

Fair chance we would vote them in now if there was an election, although Elmo Musk is currently funding a even more far right party which might split the vote 🤣.

The three years is just the timeframe before an election has to be held.

Bigotry is pretty much the only strategy the GOP has left. One state over, they are hammering the airwaves with ads claiming Hallie Shoffner, the Democrat running against Tom Cotton, is a major supporter of the “tRaNs AgEnDa”. It’s pathetic. It reeks of desparation. I think, for the first time in years, the Democrats might actually have a viable candidate. I think Tom Cotton thinks so too. I hope Hallie Shoffner stomps that little fucking weasel into the dirt.

I wrote a thing I hope to turn into a postable graphic. It reads (current version):

Ken Paxton and James Talarico are running for US Senator of Texas. The race serves as a microcosm of what red-state Republicans have to decide in the 2026 midterm election:

Do you want relief from the bullshit and open corruption? Or do you serve and obey our Glorious Leader?

Are you tired of watching your family suffer? Or are you good with owning the libs some more, and maybe pushing trans folk back into the shadows?

Are you a communist and a terrorist, as defined by the US Department of Justice? Or do you cede your voice to the party that is actively trying to make elections irrelevant?

I’m always astounded by their lack of creativity. Same with right wing comics. They lack every bit of talent and or creativity. I never saw a right wing comedian or comic where i thought: i don’t disagree, but that shit is funny. I understand that that’s not only right wingers, there’s leftist stonetoss artists as well, and a lot of people here love them to death, but you’d think there is someone hateful that also has some talent. Same with Donald, he can say whatever, whenever, he clearly doesn’t care and it doesn’t matter, but all he comes up with is sleepy joe, his wife looks like a dog, he she is fat and whatnot.

trump uses the tactic like russia, call sanewashing. hypernormalizing, if they say it enough time, the braindead support things its normal and not an issue. in trumps case he uses this as a distraction from other thing he distracting from.

He’s also specifically running as a Christian who opposes Christian Nationalism which is the most terrifying thing about him to the GOP. They know full well that being able to use the Christian label is the only thing they need for low information voters to vote for them, especially in the South. If they lose the stranglehold they have on that label they are well and truly fucked.

But their messaging works. And gets votes. I guarantee next time I see my dad he’ll bring up Talarico being a slur while emphasizing the foreign-ness of his last name. He will not, however, acknowledge any details about Ken Paxton’s criminal behavior, because that’s fake news and he “won” by not getting indicted/convicted. I hope he dies soon so my votes aren’t canceled out by him any more.

You know, something like 70% of the country is Christian. I have plenty of reasons to dislike and distrust organized religion, but you have to recognize that there are progressive Christians who don’t use their faith to oppress people. There are some Christians who take the “love one another” thing seriously and don’t suck.

James Talarico is a cis man. Not trans. Stephen Miller was intending to A) suggest that he looks like a biological woman dressing as a man, meant to be an macho insult, and B) probably mislead Trump’s idiot base into actually believing that to be true so they automatically hate him. Stephen Miller is a literal nazi in all but (maybe) name, and he hates anyone that is not white, not straight, not cis, not biologically male, or not pro fascism. If you are any of those things, he believes suggesting that you are other of those things to be inherently an insult. Whether or not you consider being trans bad, he does, and so him saying it is still an insult, particularly where it’s not remotely true.

I don’t think Talarico is cool in general. He seems like a pretty campy christian dude with decent morals and a good attitude. But the bar is set really damn low. Compared to the alternative, Ken Paxton, he’s LL fucking Cool J. That evil moron has done more damage to the integrity and trust in our election system than most, and worked constantly to thwart good policy making under Biden. Talarico. May not be exciting, exactly, but he’s young, he’s more progressive than the establishment, and Ken Paxton doesn’t need to be in any office, let alone a federal one.

The fact that he’s not cool, or trying to be, is his strength. He comes off like a sincere, decent, honest person, with good faith intentions. I’ll vote for that over a proven scumbag like Paxton.

What’s the logic? Talarico seems to good to be true, he must be hiding something, with no evidence of that at all. So the better alternative is Paxton, a guy who is absolutely proven to be one of the most corrupt politicians in America, right up there with the very worst of the worst.

But yeah, Talarico might be hiding something, so vote for the known criminal.
